Bulked-segregant analysis and next-generation sequencing was utilized to map and identify the mutation in the maize stock ba*-GN135. The material is from EMS mutagenesis of B73. The identify barren stalk was identified in the M2 generation and was backcrossed to A619 four times. Therefore, this material is a BC4M2 pool of mutants that were sequenced. A mapped base cloning approach was used by calling SNPs and plotting the allele frequency across all ten maize chromosomes. This allele is now designated as ba1-GN135.
