Xylella fastidiosa subspecies sandyi causes Oleander Leaf Scorch disease in Oleander and is transmitted by the Glassy Winged Sharp Shooter (Homalodisca vitripennis). The goal of this sequencing project is to obtain a complete sequence of this plant pathogen to 1) determine its relationship to other Xylella fastidiosa subspecies, and 2) by comparing the genome of this subspecies to other subspecies for the identification of genes involved in plant host specificity.
