The candidate causative region, retaining the mutation responsible for the wingless-2 mutant phenotype, resides within a 227 kb region of chicken chromosome 12. 300 kb (227 kb and flanking DNA) is sequenced in a cohort of individuals from the congenic inbred line Wingless-2.331 to obtain deep coverage in each bird across this region. Comparisons between individuals are made in an effort to distinguish the potentially causative variation, which ultimately may be used to enhance the use of this line as a developmental model for comparable human disorders.
