Venturia carpophila is the pathogenic fungus causing peach scab. The symptoms of the disease are black freckles and/or scabs on the fruit surface, resulting in unmarketable fruit. The genome sequence is a useful resource for further studies of the pathogen and disease in many areas, such as biology, ecology, host coevolution, gene function, genetic diversity, and phylogenetic relation.
