The goal of this study is to compare transcriptome profiles (RNA-seq) of maize pepck1 mutants and wild-type W22 along the leaf developmental gradient under high (220kg/Ha) or no exogenous nitrogen treatment. To ascertain the function of pepck1, two insertion events were identified in a Ds transposon screen: allele 1 contained a transposon insertion in the 3'UTR, allele 2 contained a transposon insertion at the intron 7 - exon 8 border
