DNA was extracted from the rumen samples using the PowerMag Soil DNA isolation kit (MoBio Laboratories, Carlsbad, CA, USA) according to the manufacturer’s protocol with a few modifications as described by publication. The modified protocol also included adding RNase A to the lysis solution to ensure removal of RNA during DNA extraction. The isolated DNA was stored at -20°C until used for bacterial community analysis. The V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified and sequenced on the MiSeq platform.
It is recommended to cite the accession numbers that are assigned to data submissions, e.g. the GenBank, WGS or SRA accession numbers. If individual BioProjects need to be referenced, state that "The data have been deposited with links to BioProject accession number PRJNA552591 in the NCBI BioProject database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/)."
