The beef cattle rumen microbiome composition is influenced by host genetics

posted on 2024-09-29, 06:09 authored by University of Nebraska Lincoln
DNA was extracted from the rumen samples using the PowerMag Soil DNA isolation kit (MoBio Laboratories, Carlsbad, CA, USA) according to the manufacturer’s protocol with a few modifications as described by publication. The modified protocol also included adding RNase A to the lysis solution to ensure removal of RNA during DNA extraction. The isolated DNA was stored at -20°C until used for bacterial community analysis. The V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene was amplified and sequenced on the MiSeq platform.
