Sarcocystis neurona is an important cause of neurological disease in horses and an emerging pathogen of marine mammals. It is a member of the phylum Apicomplexa which includes intracellular pathogens of veterinary and medical importance. The genome and transcriptome sequence of S. neurona will enable us to gain insight into the basic biology of S. neurona. In addition, the genome will be a valuable resource to the research community. Being an extensive genus within this phylum, Sarcocystis is anticipated to serve as a comparative model to help understand the phylogenomics and evolution of this important phylum.
It is recommended to cite the accession numbers that are assigned to data submissions, e.g. the GenBank, WGS or SRA accession numbers.
