Product System Model of United States Poultry Production 2010
This product system represents the poultry meat produced for human consumption as a result of producing one broiler. Both types of live weight poultry are at the farm gate, ready for transport to the processing plant, although not necessarily at the same farm. It includes the fraction of a spent hen attributable to the production of one broiler.
Product system boundaries include all material and energy flows associated with crop production and live poultry operations, including the handling and disposal of mortalities and manure. Inventory flows began with one day old baby chicks in the grandparent generation, continued through the parent generation, and ended with live market-weight broilers and culled hens ready for transport to processing at the farm gate. Where applicable, the recommendations of the Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership were followed, which provided guidelines for assessing the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and fossil energy use from poultry (LEAP, 2015a) and animal feed supply chains (LEAP, 2015b).

Ag Data CommonsIntended use
This data set was developed for use in Situation C2: Accounting, excluding interactions with other systems (ILCD Handbook). The data set was designed for Life Cycle Impact Modeling with Tool for Reduction and Assessment of Chemical and other Environmental Impacts (TRACI) 2.1. Impacts were modeled for global warming potential, acidification, eutrophication, fossil energy use, water depletion, and agricultural land occupation.Use limitations
These data were developed as part of a retrospective analysis of U.S. poultry production. They represent United States production in 2010. It is not appropriate for the user to assume different market weights when using this dataset.Temporal Extent Start Date
