Coemansia reversa NRRL 1564 (Kickxellales, Kickellomycotina). Coemansia primarily occurs on dung and is one of the most commonly encountered genera of the Kickxellales (33, 47). It is also one of the largest genera in the order with 16 known species. Most members of the Kickxellomycotina are saprobes, mycoparasites or symbionts of aquatic arthropods or aquatic stages of arthropods. The Kickellomycotina is one of the four subphyla traditionally classified in the Zygomycota, but current data support them as a unique lineage among the early diverging fungi, distinct from the Mucoromycotina (e.g., Rhizopus and Mucorales). As such, the subphylum likely represents a reservoir of unique genes and enzymes.
