The second step in the aerobic nitrification process is the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate by nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB). The genus Nitrobacter are r-strategist NOB that co-exist with more numerous k-strategist NOB Nitrospira in many environments. Nitrobacter play an important role responding to large nitrite concentrations in soils and other systems.
It is recommended to cite the accession numbers that are assigned to data submissions, e.g. the GenBank, WGS or SRA accession numbers. If individual BioProjects need to be referenced, state that "The data have been deposited with links to BioProject accession number PRJNA377158 in the NCBI BioProject database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/)."
