SARS-CoV-2, the causative viral agent of COVID-19, is capable of infecting a broad range of mammalian species. This has implications for animal health and conservation as well as for public health due to potential for mutation in nonhuman hosts. This study assessed the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in North American bison (Bison bison). In addition to assessments of disease pathology and clinical signs, longitudinal analysis of the nasal microbiome was also conducted to identify additional effects caused by infection.
