Microbial diversity of Juturnia kosteri and Pyrgulopsis roswellensis

dataset
posted on 2024-09-29, 06:38 authored by USDA-ARS
This study compared the microbial diversity of Juturnia kosteri and Pyrgulopsis roswellensis. Both species are micro-endemics that occupy ranges of less than 100 sqkm and are restricted to springs and sinkholes on Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Chaves County, New Mexico, USA in the northern Chihuahuan Desert. These prosobranch snails are distributed across the refuge and often co-occur at high densities. Despite high abundances, this limited distributional range has caused both species to be classified as "endangered" under the United States Endangered Species Act.
