Lactobacillus casei spp. rhamnosus species are Gram-positive lactic acid bacteria which are part of normal gastrointestinal flora, and they have been isolated from various other niches, such as oral cavity, vagina, and fermented dairy products as well. Lactobacillus casei spp. rhamnosus is a type strain and have demonstrated probiotic characteristics. L. rhamnosus have been used as effective probiotic candidates to control food-borne pathogen in various domestic animals and poultry (Higgins et al. 2008). We tested the efficacy of this strain to reduce Salmonella colonization and survival in vitro (Research is not published yet). We observed that L. rhamnosus NRRL B 442 significantly inhibited the growth of S. Enteritidis, S. Heidelberg and S. Typhimurium, and the virulence factors of these pathogens were significantly downregulated in the presence of L. rhamnosus NRRL B 442 or its cell free supernatant
