This project has the immediate tangible goals of minimizing and reorganizing into functional domains a single chromosome of the fast growing yeast, Kluyveromyces marxianus. This part of the project could eventually lead to establishing a redesigned K. marxianus as a superior alternative to Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a biotechnology platform. An additional, subtler goal of this endeavor is to develop an algorithm and technologies for genome scale redesign of eukaryotic microbes.
It is recommended to cite the accession numbers that are assigned to data submissions, e.g. the GenBank, WGS or SRA accession numbers. If individual BioProjects need to be referenced, state that "The data have been deposited with links to BioProject accession number PRJNA353332 in the NCBI BioProject database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/)."
