This study examined and compared the genomes of barley line CI 16151 and it's fast neutron derived mutant 11526. Barley is the 4th most widely produced cereal crop worldwide (FAOSTAT 2018), and disease contributes to losses in quality and yield each year. Genomic deletions in m11526 break resistance to the powdery mildew fungus, Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei (isolate 5874). The goals of this study were to develop a reference genome for barley line CI 16151 (Moseman 1972, Crop Science, p. 681-682) and to identify the gene(s) involved in breaking Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei resistance within the fast neutron derived mutant 11526.
