Pine bark beetles have a significant negative economic impact on western coniferous forests. They are difficult to control by conventional methods because they spend the majority of their lives protected beneath the bark of their hosts, where they must deal with toxic resin components. In this project, Illumina RNA-seq is used to identify transcriptome-wide changes in gene expression due in fed and unfed mountain pine beetles.
