Survey detections data for the Giant African landsnail, Lissachatina fulica (Bowdich) [Stylommatophora: Achatinidae]), with latitudes and longitudes and other spatial identifications removed per agreement between USDA-APHIS-Plant Protection and Quarantine and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).

Data are from Florida, 2011-2020, and were used to quantify for each species the dispersal kernels, or total distances travelled, up to 30 days.
"Collected FDACS distances data v1.csv" is the data with clustering for proximity in time and space. This dataset includes one tab, "Distances," which contains data records and distance metrics calculated from the cluster centroid. The dataset includes a second tab, "Raw," which contains brief data on all records, including those that could not be analyzed.

Resources in this dataset:

Resource Title: Collected raw data and data with estimated distances from FDACS for Giant African landsnail.

File Name: Collected FDACS distances data v1.xlsx

Resource Description: The "Distances" tab contains the clustered records and the estimated distances from the centroid of the cluster. The "Raw" tab is a complete listing of all records with brief information, showing records that could not be included in the distances analysis.

Resource Title: Data dictionary for the collected distances data for Giant African landsnail from FDACS in Florida.

File Name: Data dictionary for Collected FDACS Distances Data v1.csv

Data can be used to verify the results in the named manuscript, by recalculating the dispersal kernel and other summary information for the given species.
Use limitations
Because this is trapping data for a natural insect population, as opposed to a mark-release-recapture experiment, travel times have been estimated (see manuscript for more details). This adds uncertainty to the metrics for "m/d" and "diffusion coefficient". Only records with estimated travel times less than 40 days were included in the analysis, because the distance predictions needed to be valid for a 30-day delimiting survey.
