The genome of the sugar beet (Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris) doubled haploid line (KDH13) was sequenced using Illumina next generation sequencing HiSeq2000 platform. This line (PI663862) was released by USDA-ARS as genetic stock resistant to beet curly top. The whole genome sequencing shotgun (WGS) of two genomic libraries; a short-insert paired end (PE) and a 2kb-insert mate-pair (MP) resulted in 82.9 Gb of sequence data. BvvSeq-1 sugar beet genome assembly released in May 2013 is the first public assembly of a public sugar beet germplasm (KDH13). There are other sugar beet whole genome sequencing efforts elsewhere including the draft RefBeet_0.9 sequence released by the European BeetSeq consortium. Additionally, there are many published genetic linkage maps, ESTs and BACs sequencing projects that have been implemented with an aim of developing advanced genetics knowledge for a better crop.
It is recommended to cite the accession numbers that are assigned to data submissions, e.g. the GenBank, WGS or SRA accession numbers. If individual BioProjects need to be referenced, state that "The data have been deposited with links to BioProject accession number PRJNA176558 in the NCBI BioProject database (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/)."
