Bacillus cereus strain:ISO11 Genome sequencing and assembly

dataset
posted on 2024-09-29, 05:51 authored by UMBC
A bacterial strain isolated from the intestine of Fundulus heteroclitus (a species of killifish commonly known as the mummichog) was shown to possess antimicrobial activity towards several Vibrio spp. fish and coral pathogens. Sequence analysis indicated the strain, named ISO11, is a member of the Bacillus cereus clade and possesses genes encoding polyketide synthases known to synthesize the linear aminopolyol zwittermicin A antibiotic, which likely plays a role in the isolate's ability to inhibit pathogen growth. As such, ISO11 has been studied for its potential as a probiotic in marine aquaculture and its genome sequence will assist in identifying other genes and processes relevant to this activity.
