"Tennessee Red" is a Valencia-type peanut, Arachis hypogaea subsp. fastigiata var. fastigiata, with erect growth habit, flowers on the main-stem and typically more than two red seeds per pod. Valencia peanuts have their most important center of variation in Paraguay. Their diffusion outside South America was relatively late. The first documented Valencia peanuts in the USA, at the end of the 1800s, were the "Tennessee" and "Tennessee Red" type.
