16S ribosomal RNA from microbial communities collected from feedlot cattle and corresponding pens

Feces were collected from six heifers: three were culture-positive for Shiga-toxigenic E. coli O157:H7 and three were culture negative. Also, three feedlot surface material samples were collected from the pens in which the animals were housed.
